Space Boy

This quilt started with a photograph I took at my church's Harvest Supper. A couple of Photoshop generations later and I had a digital image I'm very attached to. June Underwood was nice enough to test out her new super-duper Epson wide format printer but I'm not completely happy with the starry blue background any longer as it makes the transition from digital computer image to fiber. I spent a full day dying and re-dying fabric to so I can piece subtle stripes for the background. I work up this morning and thought, .... I'll just test one more option.

The following shows the original digital image, and the two digital tests for new backgrounds.

Perhaps my favorite test, changing the format once again.

The final Quilt and close up.

One thing that surprised me is how difficult I found it to move away from my expectations after working first with a bright shiny digital image. The softer colors of the printed fabric may be something I can work around for future pieces. However I am very pleased with the 3D effect the quilting gives my little astronaut.
