For about 10 years I worked in my walk out basement studio, sharing the space with an antique wood stove, a snow mobile, and an assortment of boxes. I had studs for a ceiling, cement or studded walls, a design wall that occassionally fell down, rotten lighting and tables held up with a very creative assortment of legs.

But the space was nice and view to the outside pleasant.

A few years ago we decided to remodel the room just for me, and while I can't say my quilts are any better, I do love the new arrangement.

From the origininal rectangular room we carved out enough space to have a bathroom complete with a cobalt blue dye sink, dye storage built into the studded walls, a hallway lined with book cases and filing cabinets built into the walls. The walls of the studio are half drywall, and half painted styrofoam which function as design and photography walls.

The table itself is in the center of the room, wired so with a flip of the switch on the way out I can turn off two sewing machines and what ever combination of irons or lights I have plugged in to the electrical outlets mounted under the table.

My husband built storage shelving so I can store 32 normal sized tubs of fabric and 4 super sized tubs for backings and raw dye fabric. On the other side of the I have shelving for threads, beads, and drawing tools. It was designed so if I ever want to set up a computer desk, I can simply remove one shelf and I'm wired and ready to go.
